More than 412,000 viewers tuned in to see Shane Lowry win the 3 irish open last Sunday at Baltray, Louth Golf Club. It was the biggest audience for any Irish Open of recent years and represented 40% of all those watching television in Ireland at that time.

Meaningful Increase in Viewership compared to Previous Years

On the final day, an average audience of 187,000 viewers watched the live coverage spread over six hours and it grew to a peak of 412,000 viewers as amateur Shane Lowry clinched the 3 Irish Open trophy. Overall figures for the event were considerably higher than last year’s event at Adare Manor.

RTÉ Provides Extensive Live Coverage

RTÉ Television provided over 18 hours of live coverage across RTÉ One and RTÉ Two during the four days of the competition which was held from May 14th to May 17th this year at Baltray. Glen Killane, Group Head of Sport at RTÉ expressed delight over the high numbers tuning in to watch Shane Lowry’s historic victory.
