Kevin Kisner Leads the Way at PGA Championship
Day’s Collapse Opens the Door for Kisner, Matsuyama, and Stroud
Kevin Kisner managed to hold onto a slim lead at the PGA Championship despite a challenging finish on Saturday. The third round of the tournament turned into a battle of attrition as players struggled to navigate the tough Quail Hollow course. While Australian Jason Day imploded with a quadruple-bogey on the last hole, Kisner maintained his composure to finish one stroke ahead of Hideki Matsuyama and Chris Stroud.
A Grueling Round for Top Contenders
Kisner posted a one-over 72 to secure a seven-under 206 total heading into the final round. His accuracy off the tee helped him stay ahead of his competitors, but mistakes on holes 16 and 18 almost cost him his lead. Despite these errors, Kisner remains confident in his ability to compete for the title.
“I had a chance to run away from guys…and take people out of the tournament…but I didn’t do it,” said Kisner. “Now I’m in a dogfight tomorrow and I have to be prepared for that.”
Matsuyama, who was tied for the lead after two rounds, struggled throughout Saturday’s round but managed to stay within striking distance with some clutch pars on Quail Hollow’s challenging closing stretch known as ‘The Green Mile.’ Stroud also stayed in contention despite bogeying two of his final holes.
The Road Ahead
As players head into Sunday’s final round, all eyes will be on Kevin Kisner as he looks to capture his first major championship victory. With experienced contenders like Matsuyama and Stroud close behind him, it promises to be an exciting finish at this year’s PGA Championship.
