Mizuno S23 Wedges: Combining Precision and Performance
New Design for Enhanced Performance
Mizuno is set to release its latest S23 wedges next month, promising a unique combination of precision and performance. The new wedges are designed to offer the playing profile of a player’s bladed wedge while delivering the aggressive performance of a toe-weighted design.
Centred Sweet Spot for Improved Consistency
The S23 wedges feature a shorter hosel and a heel-orientated cavity, allowing more weight to be pushed towards the toe. This design creates a centred sweet spot, unlike most other wedges that have a heel-orientated location. The centred sweet spot results in longer impact time, less head deflection, and higher spin on both full and partial shots.
David Llewellyn, director of R&D for Mizuno, explains that the centralised sweet spot makes it easier for golfers to achieve consistent results. While newer grooves play a role in generating spin, having a centred sweet spot is crucial for most players who lack the strike consistency needed for optimal performance.
Premium Materials and Finishes
Crafted from a single block of grain flow forged carbon steel, the S23 wedges offer extraordinary feel and durability. They are available in brushed chrome or copper cobalt finishes with loft-specific profiles tailored to different shot requirements. Stronger lofts feature tear-drop straight edges transitioning into more rounded lob wedges with grinds suitable for various ground conditions and swing types.
The grooves on the S23 wedges are loft specific and quad cut into Boron-infused mild carbon steel for extended durability. Mizuno’s HydroFlow micro grooves are laser etched onto the clubface to release moisture and maintain spin consistency even in wet conditions.
RRP: £185 per club
