Lisa Maguire Wins Irish Times/Irish Sports Council ‘Sportswoman of the Month’ Award
Young Golfer Lisa Maguire Shines in May
Golfer Lisa Maguire, a 14-year-old from Cavan, has been awarded The Irish Times/Irish Sports Council ‘Sportswoman of the Month’ for her outstanding performance in May. Lisa emerged victorious at the Irish Women’s Close Championship held at Fota Island Golf Resort, where she also secured the Leitrim Cup for the second consecutive year as the leading strokeplay qualifier.
A Remarkable Achievement for a Rising Star
This prestigious award marks Lisa’s third win alongside her twin sister, Leona. However, this is the first time that she has clinched it individually. Her exceptional display on the course has earned her a spot among other monthly winners to compete for the coveted title of Sportswoman of the Year at the end of 2009.
A Season of Success and Dominance
The Maguire twins have been making waves in amateur golf this season by claiming victories in various championships including French, Scottish, and now Irish titles. Their success extends beyond individual accolades as they have also contributed to team wins such as Ulster’s Interprovincials triumph and Loreto College Cavan’s victory at the Irish Schools championships.
Sibling Rivalry Fuels Excellence
Lisa and Leona attribute their success to their competitive spirit and on-course rivalry. The sisters push each other to excel, drawing parallels with famous sibling duos like Venus and Serena Williams in tennis. Their dedication to practice and improvement reflects in their performances on the golf course.
Lisa Maguire’s recent achievements highlight her talent and determination as a young golfer on an upward trajectory in her career. With continued hard work and dedication, she is poised for even greater success in future competitions.
