Can Walton Hold On? The Battle to Keep Their Card

Ryder Cup Pair Philip Walton and Paul Broadhurst Face Uphill Battle in European Tour Qualifying School

Irishman Walton and Broadhurst Struggle in Final Round

Ryder Cup veterans Philip Walton and Paul Broadhurst are facing a tough challenge as they head into the final round of the European tour qualifying school at San Roque in Spain. Both players had a difficult fifth round, with Walton recording three bogeys in his last four holes and Broadhurst struggling with four successive bogeys late in his round.

Walton Needs Course Record to Secure Card

Walton, who famously secured Europe’s victory at Oak Hill six years ago, will likely need to close with a course record 64 to have a chance of earning his tour card for next season. Meanwhile, Broadhurst, who is going through the qualifying school for the first time since turning professional in 1988, will need a strong final round score of 68 to stay in contention.

Despite their challenges, both players are determined to fight for their spots on the tour. Welshman David Park currently leads the field on 17 under par after a solid fifth round performance. Young talent Nick Dougherty also made an impressive move up the leaderboard with a bogey-free 67.

As the competition heats up, all eyes will be on Walton and Broadhurst as they look to secure their places among Europe’s elite golfers for next season. Stay tuned for more updates from San Roque as these seasoned pros battle it out on the course.
