Abraham Ancer, a one-time PGA Tour winner and the 20th-ranked player in the world, has officially signed with LIV Golf and will compete in the upcoming second event. The Mexican golfer, who claimed his lone Tour title at the 2021 WGC-st. Jude Invitational, joins other top players like Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau on the rival tour.

In a press release announcing Ancer’s signing with LIV Golf, officials revealed that more player announcements and details about the Portland field list will be unveiled in the coming days. Brooks Koepka is also rumored to have joined the rival tour, with an official announcement expected soon.

Ancer had withdrawn from the U.S. Open due to illness but is set to compete in LIV’s second event at Pumpkin Ridge in Oregon. The tournament will feature a 54-hole competition with a team component and $25 million in prize money.

Ancer’s Departure Impacts International Presidents Cup Team

Ancer’s decision to join LIV Golf means he will no longer be eligible to play for Trevor Immelman’s International Presidents Cup team at Quail Hollow later this year. Despite his impressive debut performance in 2019, where he went 3-1-1, Ancer will now focus on his new opportunities outside of traditional golf.Now entering his sixth full season on Tour, Ancer has earned nearly $15 million in on-course earnings. While ranking 79th on Tour this season with three top-10 finishes in 17 starts,he looks forward to spending more time with family and friends through his new venture with LIV Golf.
