An Insightful Conversation with Annabel Dimmock: A Rising Star in Women’s Golf
In an engaging interview, Golf News Editor Nick Bayly connects with Annabel Dimmock, a talented player on the Ladies European Tour (LET), as she prepares to kick off her sixth season on the professional circuit. At just 24 years old and hailing from Sunningdale, Annabel shares her experiences navigating life on tour during unprecedented times, discusses the evolution of women’s golf, and reveals her personal aspirations for the future.
Navigating Challenges During a Global Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted countless lives across various sectors, including professional sports. When asked about her experiences over the past year, Annabel reflects thoughtfully:
“The last year has undoubtedly been challenging for many people. While I won’t claim that not being able to play golf was my greatest hardship, it certainly posed difficulties—especially for those new to professional golf. The stop-start nature of our season made it hard to build momentum.”
She recalls how their competitive schedule began in Australia before everything came to a halt in March 2020. After months without tournaments, June brought some relief with the launch of the Rose Ladies Series—a series of events that allowed players like Annabel to regain their competitive edge.
The Impact of the Rose Ladies Series
Reflecting on this pivotal moment in her career, Annabel expresses gratitude for these events:
“The Rose Series was truly a lifeline for UK-based players like myself on the LET. After months without competition or purpose, having those tournaments reignited my passion and motivation.”
Living near many event venues made participation even more accessible for her. She particularly enjoyed playing at renowned courses such as Royal St George’s—a rare opportunity since links courses are not frequently featured in LET events.
Adapting to Tournament Bubbles
Playing under strict tournament protocols presented its own set of challenges:
“Being confined within tournament bubbles while traveling abroad felt quite surreal,” she admits. “At some events, we were restricted from leaving our hotel rooms between rounds and had meals delivered—definitely not ideal! I missed socializing with fellow competitors; at times it felt isolating.”
Despite these hurdles, she remained optimistic about what lay ahead as they approached 2021.
Looking Ahead: A Promising Season Awaits
With anticipation building around LET’s upcoming schedule—which appears robust towards late 2021—Annabel is cautiously optimistic:
“I’m excited about how things are shaping up,” she says enthusiastically but acknowledges uncertainty remains due to ongoing pandemic conditions.
The previous year’s disruptions were disappointing given that LET had finally begun establishing a strong calendar after years of struggle.
“I had hoped to travel somewhere warm early this year for practice,” she adds wistfully but resolves instead to focus on training locally during lockdowns.
Training Regimen During Lockdown
During earlier lockdowns when access was limited yet opportunities arose unexpectedly:
“I stayed at a friend’s house equipped with an artificial putting green and practice net,” explains Annabel. “This setup allowed me ample time dedicated solely toward refining my swing mechanics.”
Ironically enough—the extended break provided space needed for significant improvements which later reflected positively during competitions like those held within The Rose Series.
“My mental game also benefited greatly from reading literature focused specifically around psychology related directly back into sports performance,” she notes proudly while emphasizing newfound insights gained through reflection time away from regular competition schedules.
Early Beginnings: How It All Started
When discussing how she first got involved in golf:
“My father played recreationally; he introduced both me & my sister early-on by taking us out onto driving ranges.” From thereon out—it became clear where passions lay!
Competing through programs such as HSBC Wee Wonders helped solidify ambitions further leading eventually towards acceptance into Wentworth Scholarship Programme at age fourteen—a turning point indeed!

Goals Moving Forward
Having clinched victory previously already once upon entering LET ranks—the next goal remains clear-cut according-to-Dimmock herself;
“Winning again is paramount! Consistency across major tournaments holds equal importance too though.” She elaborates further stating “It’s essential competing against top-tier talent regularly.”
Aspirations Beyond Borders
As many elite European golfers transition stateside seeking LPGA Tour cards—Dimmock shares similar ambitions albeit strategically cautious;
“I earned Symetra Tour card recently—but will only pursue full LPGA qualification before making any moves overseas.” With plans still intact despite setbacks caused by global health crisis affecting qualifying processes last season—it seems determination fuels every step taken forward hereafter!
