Surrey PGA Professional Gary Marks Qualifies for European Senior Tour
Gary Marks Secures Second Place in Final Qualifying Round
Surrey PGA professional Gary Marks is gearing up to compete on the European Senior Tour after an impressive performance in the final qualifying round held in Portugal. Despite missing a significant portion of last season due to a wrist injury, the 50-year-old golfer from the World of Golf Centre in New Malden showcased his skills at Pestana Resort’s Vale da Pinta course.
Marks delivered consistent rounds of 75, 70, 69, and 71 to secure a tied second position, finishing seven shots behind the winner Ken Tarling from Canada. Reflecting on his achievement, Marks expressed his satisfaction at being able to return to competitive play after overcoming his injury setback.
Second Chance at Career for Gary Marks
Turning 50 last year marked a significant milestone for Marks as he entered the realm of senior golf. Like many golfers approaching their fifties, he views the Senior Tour as an opportunity for a second chance at pursuing his passion for golf at a professional level.
Marks emphasized that senior golfers are just as competitive and physically fit as their younger counterparts; age is merely a number that does not diminish their drive and skill on the course. With determination and resilience, he is eager to make his mark on the European Senior Tour.
Only the top 16 players from the qualifying round secured their cards for the upcoming 2015 season. Notable names such as Stephen Bennett and Mike McLean from Kent were unable to clinch spots among the qualifiers, highlighting the fierce competition within senior golf.
The European Seniors Tour will kick off with the Jersey Open at La Moye scheduled from June 4-6. As Gary Marks prepares to embark on this new chapter in his golfing career, he remains focused on making an impact and showcasing his talent among seasoned veterans of the sport.
