Nick Dougherty Wins BMW International Open with a Strong Finish
Argentina’s Rafa Echenique Gives Dougherty a Scare with Albatross
Home Favourite Bernhard Langer Falls Back in Munich
Nick Dougherty secured victory at the BMW International Open in Munich with an impressive closing round of 64. However, his win was almost overshadowed by Argentina’s Rafa Echenique, who finished with an albatross two to equal a European Tour record.
Echenique’s incredible shot put him just four shots behind Dougherty, but the Englishman held his nerve and parred the final three holes to clinch the title by one stroke. Despite a strong start from home favourite Bernhard Langer, who aimed to become the oldest winner in Tour history at 51, he ultimately fell back to ninth place.
South African Retief Goosen finished third after leading for much of the tournament. Rory McIlroy was the top Irish finisher at 14-under, tying for 15th place alongside Peter Lawrie at 12-under. Gareth Maybin ended with a two-under total while Michael Hoey finished four-over par.
it was an exciting finish to the BMW International Open as Nick Dougherty emerged victorious after facing tough competition from Rafa Echenique and other top players on the European Tour circuit.
