Jon Rahm Reflects on His US Open Triumph and Future Aspirations in Golf
After clinching his first major title at the US Open last summer, Jon Rahm is now focused on achieving greater success in golf. At just 26 years old, he has set his sights on winning more prestigious tournaments while maintaining a consistent performance at the highest level.
Reflecting on his journey, Rahm acknowledges that many golfers take years to secure their first major victory. For instance, Phil Mickelson didn’t win until he was 34. However, for Rahm, the pressure of each passing major did not weigh heavily on him. “It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking only majors matter,” he explains. “Winning a major is incredibly challenging; that’s why so few have achieved it.” When he arrived at last year’s US Open, he felt a mix of hope and relaxation about his performance.
As time has passed and with personal growth—especially after becoming a father—Rahm’s mindset has evolved significantly. He admits that while bad shots still frustrate him, they no longer ruin his day or game as they once did. “I want to be an example for my son,” he shares candidly. “There are moments from my past I wish I could change; however, I’ve learned to move forward.”
In previous US Opens, Rahm experienced highs and lows with numerous birdies alongside bogeys and double bogeys. Yet during the tournament at Torrey Pines last year, everything clicked into place as he managed more birdies than mistakes—a pivotal moment in securing his victory.
Setting Goals: Consistency vs Wins
This year presents new challenges for Rahm as he evaluates what success looks like following such an impressive previous season.
The Balance Between Rankings and Major Wins
When asked whether being ranked number one or winning more majors holds greater importance for him:“I’ve achieved both now,” says Rahm confidently.” Being world No.1 reflects sustained excellence over time while winning a major requires peak performance over just one week.” He expresses pride in reaching this milestone early in his career regardless of having secured a major title yet.”

A New Chapter with Callaway Equipment
This past season marked an exciting transition for Jon as he switched equipment manufacturers to Callaway Golf—a decision that proved fruitful almost immediately upon implementation.
“I was prepared for some initial struggles when changing clubs,” admits Jon candidly but adds how pleasantly surprised he’s been by how seamlessly everything fell into place instead.
“The new driver—the Callaway Rogue ST Max—is performing exceptionally well; my spin rates have become much more consistent even when missing shots slightly off target.”
He appreciates not only its functionality but also its aesthetic appeal: “The matte black finish resonates with me personally since I own a matte black car!”
